BlackBerry 8820 Available Now on T-Mobile USA

T-Mobile USA has just begun offering the BlackBerry 8820. This is one of RIM's first models with Wi-Fi, and it supports T-Mobile's HotSpot@Home service.

In addition to functioning as a regular BlackBerry smartphone, HotSpot@Home allows consumers to make unlimited free wireless phone calls over a Wi-Fi connection.

An Overview of the BlackBerry 8820

The BlackBerry 8820 has a full QWERTY keyboard and a QVGA screen.

Like all of RIM's latest generation of models, it includes significant support for multimedia, including playing video and MP3 files. For storing these files, the 8820's microSD card slot support SDHC, allowing it to use cards that are as large as 32 GB, when these come on the market. microSD cards with 8 GB of storage are available now.

In addition to 802.11 b, g, and a., it is a quad-band GSM/GPRS device with EDGE but not 3G. This BlackBerry also sports Bluetooth 2.0. In addition, the 8820 includes a built-in GPS receiver.

BlackBerry 8820 Pricing and Availability

The base price for this smartphone is $500, but T-Mobile is offering a $150 instant discount, dropping the cost to $350.

The BlackBerry 8820 is available now on T-Mobile USA's web site.
